New Hope Housing's core purpose is to create life-stabilizing affordable apartment homes with a sense of dignity for adults who live singly on limited incomes. Our vision is to develop and operate supportive single room occupancy (SRO) communities for more than 1,000 adults by 2015.
Deputy Secretary Ron Sims from the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development visits New Hope Housing’s Canal Street Apartments.
Community partners and city officials enjoyed a tour of the Canal
Street property along with the Deputy Secretary. The tour was followed
by a small, private discussion about transit center housing and
sustainable communities.

New Hope Housing at Brays Crossing
Located at I-45 South and Griggs Road, Brays Crossing contains 149
affordable, efficiency units. An important public art display is
an integral feature to the building as a part of the continuous
sound wall facing the freeway. Chicana artist, Carmen Lomas Garza,
designed a four-panel galvanized steel mural based on colorful Mexican
paper cutouts.

Canal Street Apartments was one of 25 best practice finalists chosen from a broad mix of exemplary projects in North and South America for the 2009 Urban Land Institute Awards for Excellence.
Canal Street Apartments received a 2009 Urban Land Institute-Houston Development of Distinction Award.
Today, we are raising funds to complete construction of the Sakowitz Apartments, a 166-unit new construction community. This development will be Houston’s first ever 'green' SRO. Situated in the Fifth Ward/ Denver Harbor area, Sakowitz will be ready for occupancy in fall 2010. Take A Closer Look
Currently, our 57-unit 1414 Congress SRO is closed for renovation and will reopen in mid-2010.
New Hope's properties are consistently fully occupied. This underscores the strong demand for affordable SRO housing.
